A new monastery & community centre for the Karen community in Bendigo

The Karen Buddhist Dhamma Dhutta Foundation has purchased a house to use as a monastery and community centre.

The address is:

26 Hercules Street

Long Gully 3556

We had been using a rented house as our monastery and community centre, but this had not been adequate.

The monastery is:

  • A community centre for Karen Christians, Karen Buddhists, and Australian Buddhists
  • A place where Buddhists practise their religion
  • A residence for monks and nuns
  • A place where newly arrived Karen refugees stay when they first arrive in Bendigo

As several refugee families are arriving at the end of the year, finding a larger monastery had been a priority.

Apart from the cost of purchasing the house, we are fundraising to make improvements and convert the garage into a prayer hall.

We are grateful for any donations.
